About Atticus

Atticus is the first and only mobile app designed for probate and estate settlement, combining powerful technology with intuitive user experiences to save time and money, as families and their advisors navigate the probate, estate settlement and inheritance process together with confidence and peace of mind.

Without Atticus, the typical family spends an average of 513 hours and $14,225 over the course of 12+ months working to interpret one’s estate planning wishes, close financial accounts, manage the distribution of inheritance assets and coordinate ongoing communication across family members— usually with as many as 15 advisors involved.

At Atticus, we’re democratizing probate, estate settlement & inheritance by making it affordable, accessible, and simple by taking a technology-first approach towards building clean software to automate archaic & manually-intensive financial/legal processes.

While it’s not everyday you or I lose a loved one, everyday ~150k families do…. and their whole lives are changed.

About the role

As an industry Community Manager, you will be responsible for finding, building & maintaining relationships with various roles/professions across the legal industry that interact with the Atticus platform &/or our customers.

You will work directly with the founding product & industry domain teams to design & refine scalable engagement loops as a focused effort to automate and optimize 'Atticus Community' projects at scale. As a functional industry liaison, you will collaborate closely across our marketing, sales, product & design teams to help shape our product roadmap & marketing assets as a result of the feedback & findings learned from external industry relationships & customer interactions.

This role will require frequent involvement in various legal research & projects as a part of the ongoing development & expansion of our product(s)/platform capabilities.

This role reports directly to the CEO/Founder.

In this role, you will:

  • Build & maintain relationships with county clerks, judges, administrative professionals, T&E attorneys, etc.
  • Design and manage CRM & associated metadata from strategic relationships using combination of internal & external platforms (GoogleSheets, Commsor, Dots, etc)
  • Plan & host live engagements, meetups, coffee chats & happy hours, live product demos, etc.
  • Foster communication and & engagement across public & private communication channels or platforms (i.e. slack, webflow, social media, etc.)
  • Work with the product team to design & launch engagement loops (i.e. webflow, typeform, comment forums of marketing site, etc.)
  • Liaise with other internal Community Manager(s) to share, identify & implement best practices and winning strategies
  • Collaborate with internal Product Teams & Estate Settlement Specialists to identify features & solve customer bugs/problems
  • Support product team with research & retrieval of proprietary product/platform data across USA & Canada (i.e. County::County & State::State info)
  • Aid customer success teams in fielding customer support, follow-me-home assignments and other opportunities to engage with customers to gather feedback/learnings
  • Assist internal & external counsel across miscellaneous legal-related projects, decisions & review of contracts
Qualifications

You are a paralegal, attorney or court clerk/judge who has strong ability to interpret & practice Trust & Estates law, but often find yourself preferring to build relationships & collaborating with others instead of spending ~10hrs reading tax code & trust law (it's okay §2031, we 💜 you).

You have a foundational appreciation & respect for the functional role of case law precedence, balanced by an optimistic curiosity for pushing boundaries and gradually expanding the frontiers of the legal industry. You firmly believe that the affordable access to law is a fundamental, constitutional right and are dismayed that modern societal & technological advancements have done little to ensure that occurs at scale. You wholeheartedly agree there are incredible opportunities for emerging technological advancements to improve & further democratize affordable access to legal aid— but agree that scalable distribution & access to law should not be misunderstood or mis-marketed to imply practice of law.

You have a deep operational understanding of probate court processes, roles/personnel, technology/softwares used internally and the sense of general office culture(s). Despite being a government-led entity, if the probate court was a privately-owned business you'd have a firm understanding of current best practices, as well as known opportunities to improve scalability and operational efficiencies. You have a strong network of probate court contacts and an innate ability to foster a genuine rapport with more of the same.

You have experience with:

  • Prior experience working with or for probate court(s)
  • Hands-on experience navigating & advising clients through probate & estate settlement process(es)
  • Trust & Estates specializations including: Trust Law, Tax Law, Fiduciary Law, Estate Planning, Estate Settlement, Asset Ownership & Titling Law
  • Successfully networking across many legal professions like: attorneys, paralegals, court clerks & judges, & other administrative professionals
  • Tasteful ability to translate relationships & conversations into identifying new product or business opportunities
  • Strong familiarity with UPL and interpreting related case law precedence (i.e. concern for consumer protection vs. true UPL)
  • Proficiency using & collaborating across modern software platforms like: Social platforms, Slack, Trello, Google Suite, Microsoft Office, etc.)
  • T&E legal knowledge required, but role does not engage in practice of law
  • JD, paralegal, or equivalent legal training
Bonus points for interest or experience with:
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school in the U.S.
  • Reviewing & preparing miscellaneous contracts, policies, form language & other legalese
  • Advising as internal legal counsel and/or working alongside external counsel team(s)
  • Experience working for a startup (pre-Series A/B stage)
  • Experience working across fintech, insuretech or legaltech industries
  • Content writing and tastefully translating legalese into a digestible consumer-oriented voice & tone
  • Understanding frontier & emerging legal trends/disruptors like: DAOs, Smart Contracts, Blockchain, etc.
Other benefits include
  • 100% remote. We make remote-work, work.
  • Flexible PTO
  • Eligible for employee stock options & equity grants
