Need help with probate in South Carolina?
Unfortunately, they make it so you have to get a lawyer. And the lawyers drag it out so they get whatever money is left. I think it is sad. And dealing with grief and probate is awful
When my mother, Rebecca M. McCraw passed away my brother, Edward O'Neal McCraw and I were co- everything. The two of us met at the Anderson Probate Office. We only talked with a clerk. I explained that I have multiple health issues and was not able to travel back and forth from my home in Pumpkin Town on 135 North, Easley, SC to sign every document, etc. The clerk said that I could sign (she said that I could sign giving my brother the right to sign my name on any legal documents) so, I signed. She (clerk) did not explain to me that I was giving him total power and that he would get 5% of the estate. If she had explained to me that was what I was doing, I would have never signed. Now, my brother has paid himself $13.000 to probate what had to be probated. I am crapped out of $6, 500. I wouldn't give a wooden nickel for Anderson Probate. Probate offices do not need to hire incompetent people who do not explain to a person EXACTLY what they are signing. Good luck on whoever has to probate anything in Anderson, SC.
I received a "NOTICE OF HEARING," for my grandson on October 3, 2019. The only problem was the hearing was on October 2, 2019. The letter was mailed on September 30, 2019. Court documents should be sent certified mail, or registered mail.
