About visiting the probate court

Who to speak with when visiting the Anne Arundel County probate court

Upon visiting the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County, look for signs or directions to the probate division within the main courthouse. Once you’ve located the probate division, make your way to any reception desks and ask to speak with a probate clerk or probate judge. The probate clerk at Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County may or may not require appointments based upon the busyness of the probate court, so it’s a great idea to call ahead.

Plan ahead to be early in case available parking is limited and be prepared for formal security measures upon entering the building, as courthouses are official state and federal property. This generally includes passing through metal detectors and allowing search of any belongings.

Many courthouses do not allow cell phones, so keep that in mind as your phone may need to be turned off upon entering the courthouse, or even left outside.

Under 10 mins I had certified copies of my marriage license from 1997. Everyone was masked from the cops at the door to the people behind the counter. If only all government agencies were run like this one. Highly efficient and pleasant. Couldn't ask for better customer service!

Friday April 16, 2021 I went to the County Clerk office to file my “Letter of Good Standings” as a Ordained Minister and my “Credentials of Ministry”. Everyone was busy, however the County Clerk Employee took the time to explain Maryland’s requirements for submitting a marriage License, since I’m the Wedding Officiant. She was extremely helpful, circling the instructions on the form on the proceeders that needed to be followed and filed. Afterward I shamelessly asked where can find a decent Cosmopolitan since I was thirsty, and raved about my experience of drink the best Cosmo ever at the Peninsula Hotel in New York City! Not letting Annapolis to be outdone by the “Mixologist” in New York, The City Clerk who I was speaking to called in reinforcements to assist her in providing me a location in downtown Annapolis to match and exceed the Battle of who had the best “Cosmopolitan”. I’m form Brooklyn where all good things come from; RBG, Larry King, and Me! So I give Annapolis City Clerk 5 Star. So if you’re wondering where they sent me, well I guess your gonna have to go the County Clerks Office and ask yourself! MMSD

This is a warning to anyone getting married in Anne Arundel County. DON'T! Getting a marriage license will be the biggest headache. Way more of a headache than of planning a small COVID-19 wedding. It took me over a month to receive a Marriage licence from this local government. After following their instructions online to the tee, the procedure was incorrect. They sent it back to us simply stating 'wrong form, would call but no phone number was provided-KH.,' Our phone numbers were written 4 times on their form. They were too lazy to actually review the document and put in any effort to their job. We filled out the correct form, and over a month nothing was in the mail. It still took us calling everyday the week of the wedding to have them send us the license. They lied on the date they sent it out on the phone and this was proven on the stamp date processed through the post office. Every time we called them, they were extremely rude and unprofessional. On the phone they clearly showed they are unhappy with their jobs. They hung up the phone three times while I was still asking a question. 'Time will tell' with their good days. In the end, we received our license on the day of our wedding. I am very surprised they even sent it to the correct address since they informed me they sent it to another state by accident. I hope these people working at the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel Country find a new job and some happiness in their lives. I feel sincerely bad for the clerks because their supervisor obviously did not have customer service training in their training curriculum. Good luck to any future bride and groom that decides to get married through this County Clerk office. You will need it. .

My complaint wont get me anywhere seeing as it was the supervisor who made the mistake in the first place. I'm about to write a novel so strap in. I got married on June 5. The courts weren't open until June 1. I dropped off my paperwork for my marriage license on June 1. I received my paperwork from them in the mail on June 4. They spelled my name wrong so on Monday (the very next time they were open) I called to ask how to fix it. I said "I got married on Friday but my name is spelled wrong, what do I need to do to fix it?" The lady told me I would have to resubmit the paperwork and pay 10$ for the replacement. I asked if I did that would the June 3 date still be valid so I could put june 5 down as my wedding day and she told me NO. There would be a new 48 hour waiting period. Annoying, so I thought why bother with this right now since i cant put the actual day i got married down anyway. Fast forward to today and I finally feel ready to deal with it. Call them again and ask the same question and the lady asks me "did you already get married?" and i said uh yea and then she told me i would have to pay 160$ for fix THEIR mistake. How is it possible that, because of THEM, I am then required to pay to fix paperwork? Because THEY couldn't read my handwriting (even tho the other 8 times i wrote that letter on the document they could read it just fine) WHY do they bother requiring a phone number and an email address (which is my name, so my name was on there three times and they still couldnt read it?) if they aren't going to contact you when they have a question? Why are the people required to pay money to fix the mistakes of careless government employees when all it takes to AVOID the mistake is a 30 second phone call? Something in the policy needs to change
