Who to speak with when visiting the Columbia County probate court
Plan ahead to be early in case available parking is limited and be prepared for formal security measures upon entering the building, as courthouses are official state and federal property. This generally includes passing through metal detectors and allowing search of any belongings.
Many courthouses do not allow cell phones, so keep that in mind as your phone may need to be turned off upon entering the courthouse, or even left outside.

Reviews of the Columbia County Courthouse
Honestly most unfair unforgiving courthouse. I genuinely feel bad for people who live in that county and deal with them.
Consistent quality service with politeness, civility, and responsibility being the most effective ways of getting things done
I wish I could give this 0 stars. Good lord! First we had to call several times to confirm every process for my name change because they were very unclear with the instructions. Then, after my court date they said we needed to pay another fee, but only in check. No one has checks anymore. Once we got the check we hurried back to get the paperwork done, but they closed 10 minutes early. So we came back the next day with the check and then they said we needed another check made out to them (not telling us we needed to the previous day). Now we have to wait a week for the DMV to open just to get a new license, when I could have gotten it today if the lady included the information. Please fix your system and include how much we need to pay and what you accept in cash or check. This is RIDICULOUS!
This is the most backwards and unhelpful community service I have ever seen. The traffic clerk is rude beyond belief and the communication between them and the dmv is basically nonexistent. I sent in paperwork over a week ago and the judge just hasn’t checked it. Talk about doing the right thing and still getting screwed by the system
Anyone that rates Columbia County above a 2 is either an employee or friend or relative of an employee. Me dealings have been with the Clerk of Courts. I work at a law firm that files documents with the Clerk of Courts. Long story short the counties website says to do one thing......it doesn't work, tells you to do something else....you do it and then you get your documents returned in the mail instructing you to file according to what the website says (which don't forget you have already done). The instructions do not tell you that you have to call them so they can tell you that you have to fax over a request to have the files converted to efile capability (you just have to be smarter than the people working at Columbia County and make the effort to call because you have already tried to efile and send via paper). Once the files have been converted (and they don't contact you to let you know this is done) you can efile the docs. Then unlike every other county it doesn't allow you to pay the filing fee (that box shows $0.00 due), So you wait and wait to get the information filed and when nothing happens you call again to be told you have to send the payment in via United States Postal Service ( and again no information or phone call with instructions that you have to do this). You send the payment in only for it to come back in the mail because you have addressed it to 400 De Witt St.(which is the address listed everywhere including the header of the review page that it can't be delivered. You pick up the phone again to call and find out why it was returned to find they have a PO Box you should send the payment to. So they are really good and giving 1 piece of information at a time to complete your task that oh by the way you are paying for, just not so good at doing their job. Add in the fact the women you talk to are rude and very snotty. Maybe if they gave you all the information up front they wouldn't have to answer 5 or 6 phone calls for instructions that really don't have to be this difficult. Several other low ratings with same complaints. Clearly no one at Columbia County is concerned about the service they provide. I guess it starts at the top and rolls down hill.
