Who to speak with when visiting the Craven County probate court
Plan ahead to be early in case available parking is limited and be prepared for formal security measures upon entering the building, as courthouses are official state and federal property. This generally includes passing through metal detectors and allowing search of any belongings.
Many courthouses do not allow cell phones, so keep that in mind as your phone may need to be turned off upon entering the courthouse, or even left outside.

Reviews of the Craven County Courthouse

From viewing the Small Claims website, Craven County actually prefers that you not hire an attorney and just represent yourself. I now know why. It's not a Judge reviewing the case but a Magistrate and boy did I draw the short straw. This magistrate was not interested in seeing my receipts or documentation for damages on my house. If I didn't know better, I would say this is how Craven County found out they could cut cost by having people pay court fees upfront, have a magistrate "review" (and I use that word loosely) your case and then dismiss the entire thing. I feel cheated not only by my tenants but by Craven County District Court. And yes, I wrote a formal complaint to Judge Walter Mills back in September 2020. Still waiting on his reply. What a joke!

Bunch of crooks and robbers there! Officer doesn't show up for the 2nd time and they wouldnt dismiss the case. Then only offer a reduction only if you plead guilty to the bogus charge.

Never had an issue in court here. I've been here for court and most of the time, you're trying to hide your giggles. Clerk of Court is easy to deal with to file paperwork regarding cases and estate matters. The people in the Clerk of Court's office have always been professional, friendly, and helpful. The judges are just awesome. :)

Nobody ever likes going to court, but they try and make it easy. Everyone working is friendly and helpful the several times I've been. Judges are always friendly and they do their best to keep things moving quickly. Due to the high number of people usually in court, it can sometimes take a while before you can leave, so if you do end up having to go, get there early and hopefully you'll be one of the first out. The location itself is clean and historic, so if you're not there for a ticket, you'll enjoy the historic look of the building

Recieved a speeding ticket as an out of state driver. Even the lawyers are in on their scams. This is a poor example of how a judiciary system should be run. Whoever is answering phones is unprofessional. I asked to find out when my court date was moved to and was not given an told answer instead I was told not to call back for 2 weeks.
