About visiting the probate court

About visiting the Douglas County District Court

The term probate court is a common term loosely referring to the probate division located within a state or county courthouse. In the state of Washington, the Superior Court is the level of court responsible for overseeing matters related to probate court.

Douglas County District Court is listed as a registered probate court within Douglas County, Washington.

In most instances within Washington, there is at least one Superior Court courthouse location within each county. Sometimes a county may have multiple courthouses and may also have multiple probate court locations. Such is often the case in larger metropolis counties where population is dense or also in spread-out, rural counties, which may use a courthouse annex or satellite office system to accommodate nearby citizens with easier access in proximity or distance.

About visiting the probate court

Who to speak with when visiting the Douglas County probate court

Upon visiting the Douglas County District Court, look for signs or directions to the probate division within the main courthouse. Once you’ve located the probate division, make your way to any reception desks and ask to speak with a probate clerk or probate judge. The probate clerk at Douglas County District Court may or may not require appointments based upon the busyness of the probate court, so it’s a great idea to call ahead.

Plan ahead to be early in case available parking is limited and be prepared for formal security measures upon entering the building, as courthouses are official state and federal property. This generally includes passing through metal detectors and allowing search of any belongings.

Many courthouses do not allow cell phones, so keep that in mind as your phone may need to be turned off upon entering the courthouse, or even left outside.

I attempted to pay a traffic ticket online, which they constantly try to get you to do on their automated phone recordings as well as their notices by mail. The payment was made in full and I got a confirmation. Five days later, I receive another notice of suspension, warning me to pay. They will not answer their phone and offer no way of reaching them at the East Wenatchee Branch so that I can learn why. I got desperate and called the Bridgeport office. The person at that office guessed that I would probably have to pay another $52 to N-court (a third party payment company) even though there is no fee isn't posted anywhere and N-court says they don't know anything about it. So, fine. I guess I will pay more money and hope that there isn't any other hidden charges or else I will lose my license. If only they were as efficient at making their demands as they are at accepting our money, we would be able to better serve them.

The deputy was very rude Thomas Williams once he realized that I was from a different county. Was in town visiting my parents and was pulled over in my parents car for a burnt out break Light. The officer was going to just give me a warning but then realized that I was not the owner of the car and that my license was from a different county. His attitude quickly change from a nice polite conversation to very aggressive and let's get the Coastie. He immediately walked to his car after realizing that I was from a different county and came back with a ticket. I have asked a number of other people and they all say the same thing this department is ticket crazy.

Judge is very rude the staff is very snooty. Justice isn't being served here at this place, they implement uses of vulgarity towards the common person and act as if they are better than the human sitting in front of them.

So far I've attended monthly case dockets for going on a year. Honorable Judge Hotchkiss is the presiding Judge at ea. case I've observed. In my opinion he's so far been an extremely honorable judge and I'm sure will continue to be so. I appreciate how he rightfully demands respect. There's been a situation where some have concluded for that day however, continued out of his courtroom into the hallway where the associated parties decided to become engaged in beligerent behavior by raising their voices at eachother. Ofcourse, Judge Hotchkiss wasn't having it. It was extremely disrespectful and disturbing. Judge Hotchkiss immediately directed them back into the courtroom where he instructed them not to ever bahave in that manner durring court proceedures again. In the same manner of respect he has returned defendants rights when they put correct ammounts of effort into earning them back in various different aspects that have been presented to him. As well as throughout case hearings he'll take careful consideration of defendants, prosecution, ect., and directs parties what it is and where it is attention should be addressed, to assist the best interests of all involved. In my opinion, in regards to Douglass County Court (Judge Hotchkiss), a 5 star rating is definitely deserved.
