About visiting the probate court

About visiting the Franklin County Municipal Court

The term probate court is a common term loosely referring to the probate division located within a state or county courthouse. In the state of Ohio, the Common Pleas Court is the level of court responsible for overseeing matters related to probate court.

Franklin County Municipal Court is listed as a registered probate court within Franklin County, Ohio.

In most instances within Ohio, there is at least one Common Pleas Court courthouse location within each county. Sometimes a county may have multiple courthouses and may also have multiple probate court locations. Such is often the case in larger metropolis counties where population is dense or also in spread-out, rural counties, which may use a courthouse annex or satellite office system to accommodate nearby citizens with easier access in proximity or distance.

About visiting the probate court

Who to speak with when visiting the Franklin County probate court

Upon visiting the Franklin County Municipal Court, look for signs or directions to the probate division within the main courthouse. Once you’ve located the probate division, make your way to any reception desks and ask to speak with a probate clerk or probate judge. The probate clerk at Franklin County Municipal Court may or may not require appointments based upon the busyness of the probate court, so it’s a great idea to call ahead.

Plan ahead to be early in case available parking is limited and be prepared for formal security measures upon entering the building, as courthouses are official state and federal property. This generally includes passing through metal detectors and allowing search of any belongings.

Many courthouses do not allow cell phones, so keep that in mind as your phone may need to be turned off upon entering the courthouse, or even left outside.

I don't know about the rest of the employees and answer the phone but a woman named Sally was extremely rude.It started out with her saying that they can do whatever they want to do,so I asked her how do"they"sleep at night charging court cost and fees to a person that lives off of $256 disability every month, she said I sleep just fine. This woman was rude acted like she just has no conscious or empathy. How do people like this work for the state that have so much power over our lives? How do we change this?

these people are inconsistent and have no idea what is going on! One person tells you one thing and the other has no idea, I don’t understand why people so clueless are running our courthouse.

After an hour and 20 min on hold before finnaly getting to someone that hardly spoke english just for her to tell me that I need to call another number (co prosecutor) she of course gave me the wrong number (goes to the prosecutor's office but they can't help me) so now I have to spend another hour and 20 min on the phone or skipping a court date because I can't get any information about when/if I'm supost to be there. Although the staff and officers here have been as helpful as can be I'm sitting here stuck charging my phone cause I've been frantically searching for any info on where I'm supposed to go and why the clerk of courts informed me last week over the phone to be here for court today at 8:30am for my driving under suspension charge. But when I got here around 8am today why I couldn't find out where to go and when I dropped in on the clerk of courts office in person they told me that no case could be found at all. To compound the problem, despite the effort i put in to being here for this as im not trying to end up missing court and getting slapped with a Warrant, after sitting here dumbfounded for the last 3 hours, I just overheard that all traffic court is taking place over at the Columbus convention center. So now I'm about to take the shoelace express on over that way even tho it's now 3 hours after I was told to be here. Even though when I went to the clerk in person this morning I was told that I had no case pending, in fact my License status reads VALID with a driver's license expiration date of 5/6/2023!!! That's news to me!!! And here i am on foot when I could've been the one with the car today, instead my boyfriend dropped me off & had to be late to work which we are fortunate to have a job between us right now. Also I was just informed this morning by the clerk live at the court house, that in fact I am possibly supposed to be in Westerville mayor's court today so I'm about to call them too. This is such a complicated a** clusterf**k! I'VE NEVER HAD THIS KINDA CONFUSION AT FRANKLIN COUNTY COURTHOUSE. I REALLY HOPE ALL THIS EFFORT FOR A LITTLE MISDEMEANOR TRAFFIC CHARGE ISN'T IN VEIN! At least this places me in the place I was supposed to be....I hope. #TryinToAvoidADamnWARRANTDurringCovid
