Plan ahead to be early in case available parking is limited and be prepared for formal security measures upon entering the building, as courthouses are official state and federal property. This generally includes passing through metal detectors and allowing search of any belongings.
Many courthouses do not allow cell phones, so keep that in mind as your phone may need to be turned off upon entering the courthouse, or even left outside.

served on a jury last year. case + deliberation lasted about 3 weeks. all things considered, the facility itself is fine. By government standards, I would say they're pretty efficient and there are no egregiously bad problems, which is more than you can hope for considering how disruptive serving on a jury can be. (Not sure how things look now with covid though!) three protips: - do NOT eat anything at the cafeteria on the top floor. This includes anything their staff prepares (disgusting food) as well as pre-packaged food (often very close to expiration). Go to any other cafe during your recess if you aren't packing a lunch; there are plenty within walking distance. - Bring your own toilet paper or sanitary wipes. The restrooms use the lowest-grade toilet paper imaginable and you will quickly develop hemmorhoids with continued use. - The IT department is a bit underfunded and as a result, the multimedia equipment (laptops, monitors) available for use during deliberation is very old and completely incapable of decoding most modern video formats. In our circumstance, the laptop available had 1GB of RAM and an ancient single-core processor and failed to playback a single frame of video evidence originating from a modern smartphone. They were able to provide a laptop capable of this playback after asking. This did cause a bit of a delay during deliberation, but it wasn't significant enough to add days to the process. Good Luck!
I am appalled with this court, maybe its the system in general. My daughter was granted a TRO. Respondent was ordered to surrender his firearms until court. He did NOT surrender his numerous weapons or file the CH800 required as proof. Court didn't even ask respondent during hearing if he had done this. We brought his violation of the order to the courts attention. They didn’t care or address it and respondent bold face lied saying he didn’t have rifles and pistols. The TRO specifically states “all weapons must be surrendered and ANY VIOLATION of the TRO, police should be called and you will be arrested. We called police day before court, told them respondent still has his arsenals of rifles, but they said if he denies having weapons we cant enforce restraining order. So criminally minded people and liars get away with violations, if they lie. Nice! None of his actions Were addressed in court, even though substantial proof was in abusive texts as well as his discussion of one of his firearms. I could go on on how disappointing this court was. They had him sign an agreement that he wouldn’t do various things! When we got home he broke the agreement within the 1st hour as he lives directly across the street. So the court demonstrated theres a complete lack of Accountability with many perpetrators even where theres proof
The "downtown courthouse" is where you file civil actions that do not encompass family law matters. All family law matters are handled at the courthouse located on Power Inn Road.
My next door neighbor threatened me, my life and my safety. He encourages his pits to bark and attack me and totally neglects and abuses them. After 8 months of harassment, I am being forced to leave my home for my own safety and I saught a restraining order for protection. What a JOKE. Now that I know the court process for a restraining order is being forced to face your aggressor and mediate, I can't help but wonder about how many women the system has failed. How many women died from abuse because the system offers no protection. How many gave in, like I did today because they saw no other alternative. The stress of being harassed and threatened is immeasurable. So when it reaches that point of fear for your safety and you turn to the courts for help, you should be HELPED. You should be relieved. Not placed in a room, with the person you fear, and a total stranger who is a volunteer and mediates as a hobby. There is NOTHING comforting about that. Whats right and whats fair, will not come from the police or judicial system.
Here for jury duty. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The building is just plain light gray. You go to 2nd floor and wait in line to give your badge. You fill out a form just in case you are called.. You are given a badge sleeve to wear. They tell you all about the process and a judge comes to speak to you. It was very nice. Then you wait. They do play movies which is great. You may or may not be called. If you spend the day here and are not called your service is done for 18 months...yeah... You get 2 20 minutes breaks and a 2 hour lunch. They do have a little cafe in the 6th floor. They sell chips...drinks...coffee...chili...soup...pre made sandwiches...if you are going to be here all day...bring a lunch or buy food outside. There is a burrito food truck that comes but not sure the prices. I over heard a woman say the food was really good.
