About visiting the probate court

About visiting the Morris County Surrogate

The term probate court is a common term loosely referring to the probate division located within a state or county courthouse. In the state of Texas, the Probate Court is the level of court responsible for overseeing matters related to probate court.

Morris County Surrogate is listed as a registered probate court within Morris County, Texas.

In most instances within Texas, there is at least one Probate Court courthouse location within each county. Sometimes a county may have multiple courthouses and may also have multiple probate court locations. Such is often the case in larger metropolis counties where population is dense or also in spread-out, rural counties, which may use a courthouse annex or satellite office system to accommodate nearby citizens with easier access in proximity or distance.

About visiting the probate court

Who to speak with when visiting the Morris County probate court

Upon visiting the Morris County Surrogate, look for signs or directions to the probate division within the main courthouse. Once you’ve located the probate division, make your way to any reception desks and ask to speak with a probate clerk or probate judge. The probate clerk at Morris County Surrogate may or may not require appointments based upon the busyness of the probate court, so it’s a great idea to call ahead.

Plan ahead to be early in case available parking is limited and be prepared for formal security measures upon entering the building, as courthouses are official state and federal property. This generally includes passing through metal detectors and allowing search of any belongings.

Many courthouses do not allow cell phones, so keep that in mind as your phone may need to be turned off upon entering the courthouse, or even left outside.

...I wasn't going to really write a review, but the number of negative reviews prompted me too. Dad passed away related to the mess this world is going through last year. He had his paperwork in order where I felt a probate could be avoided, but one of the banks simply forced it because it was policy. Whatever. So I started the process. I went to the website and was overwhelmed by their online process. I just couldn't even deal with it while dealing with other things. The online process looked intimidating with all the boxes to fill in. So...I made an appointment with the probate office. The woman who handled the call was...a little rough...but helpful. Appointment made, I showed up, and I met this woman...and realized...well, it's her personality, she handles the phone all day...but she was nice in person. She eventually led me to the surrogate officer my mom and I would be dealing with. Susan was awesome. Gave us some good advise. As I went through this, I realized my only idea of the "probate process" is what Hollywood shows with a lawyer and such. They don't show this part with what the average American goes through. Terms you've heard start making sense, the process starts making sense, etc. It made me think about my future, and how I may re-do things for my family, to avoid...any issues, for lack of better term Mom and I spent a couple of hours there, but it was fine. I understood why. People were friendly in person. The paperwork took a little time to get in order, but no issues in the long run when it arrived completed the following month. It's an unfortunate "rite of passage", but I think the people involved...in person, were helpful, comforting, and I believe, directed you to a smoother process. Good luck.

What a place. Rude personal. I already summit applications, I Payed and still no answer about my case. She gave me acctitud, no maners at all and the only person that helped me was the supervisor for now. I hope the people working here change their attitude or look for another job because going here it's really annoying for the helpless personal.

Make sure to bring your Mind reader. These people act like someone does this multiple times in their lifetime. People are already in distress and sadness of losing someone. These people could careless, just an other day in the books. Do yourself a favor bring a recording device to educate yourself and piece together the miss mosh of information they try to direct you to do. Dare ask a question you’ll get, I can’t tell you to or not to do that. If you happen to get Joan Landrock, just get up an walk out and ask for another person, talk about socially awkward and inconsiderate.

I have had the displeasure of speaking with a Margaret in this office. She is rude, non helpful and condescending. At a time when people are upset, she does make things any easier. People in this office should be kind and patient.
