About visiting the Shelby County Circuit Court

The term probate court is a common term loosely referring to the probate division located within a state or county courthouse. In the state of Tennessee, the Probate Court is the level of court responsible for overseeing matters related to probate court.

About visiting the probate court

Who to speak with when visiting the Shelby County probate court

Upon visiting the Shelby County Circuit Court, look for signs or directions to the probate division within the main courthouse. Once you’ve located the probate division, make your way to any reception desks and ask to speak with a probate clerk or probate judge. The probate clerk at Shelby County Circuit Court may or may not require appointments based upon the busyness of the probate court, so it’s a great idea to call ahead.

Plan ahead to be early in case available parking is limited and be prepared for formal security measures upon entering the building, as courthouses are official state and federal property. This generally includes passing through metal detectors and allowing search of any belongings.

Many courthouses do not allow cell phones, so keep that in mind as your phone may need to be turned off upon entering the courthouse, or even left outside.

I just called to check on a price for an ticket I received and I was calling to see if I could get any information on how long it takes for the ticket information to pull up on website or in their system. So instead of the secretary or whatever she is, at least try to direct me to how I could get this information. She just tell me to call divorce court? Why would you have attitude when someone calls to get information!! And if you could comprehend what I was saying then ask me over again what did I call for? I guess customer service, hospitality, or just leaving your issues at home when your at work; doesn't exist anymore!! I looked up a number on google that gave me information about where to call for traffics ticket information!!! But I guess that didn't matter either because she kept telling me to call divorce court! Then when I asked about a ticket, she then tells me that's not the place to call about that information. If you work for the city, have access to the right number. Why wouldn't you give me the number to make it easier and also just to be helpful?? No. I guess not today. I hope today gets better for her but next time it would be great to have someone that answers your calls to be more expressive and light hearted. Not cold and mad at the world for god knows why, but I didn't do it to her so she should lighten up more. I only called a number that was given to me to check for a price of an ticket of a vehicle! I'm sorry I called you today! Thanks for start my day off with more bs!!

The same person answered when I called to get my information. But they had no idea where to tell me about anything. Evidently they didn't work in that department or something because after holding for about 40 mins. I then was disconnected then I call back immediately and it was busy.(phone was probably off the hook). I continued to try for 4 more hours and it was busy. I then finally got through to them at about 4:05pm and guess what? They were closed I had to call back in the am.
