About visiting the probate court

About visiting the Union County Circuit Court

The term probate court is a common term loosely referring to the probate division located within a state or county courthouse. In the state of Oregon, the Circuit Court is the level of court responsible for overseeing matters related to probate court.

Union County Circuit Court is listed as a registered probate court within Union County, Oregon.

In most instances within Oregon, there is at least one Circuit Court courthouse location within each county. Sometimes a county may have multiple courthouses and may also have multiple probate court locations. Such is often the case in larger metropolis counties where population is dense or also in spread-out, rural counties, which may use a courthouse annex or satellite office system to accommodate nearby citizens with easier access in proximity or distance.

About visiting the probate court

Who to speak with when visiting the Union County probate court

Upon visiting the Union County Circuit Court, look for signs or directions to the probate division within the main courthouse. Once you’ve located the probate division, make your way to any reception desks and ask to speak with a probate clerk or probate judge. The probate clerk at Union County Circuit Court may or may not require appointments based upon the busyness of the probate court, so it’s a great idea to call ahead.

Plan ahead to be early in case available parking is limited and be prepared for formal security measures upon entering the building, as courthouses are official state and federal property. This generally includes passing through metal detectors and allowing search of any belongings.

Many courthouses do not allow cell phones, so keep that in mind as your phone may need to be turned off upon entering the courthouse, or even left outside.

I was treated mostly fairly by the staff but the Sheriff was rude and unprofessional. Despite me paying off all my debts to Union county in 2018 and I made sure to ask if there was anything else that needed to be payed for and I was told no, two years later they are saying that i owe them an extraordinary amount. I know their computers were hacked but it is not excusable to try to make me pay money a fine that I have already taken care of, plus interest that accrued in these two years. Anyhow I will get my bank to bring up the proof that i paid Union County with my credit card. A unnecessary stressful situation that i hope to be done with soon enough.

This a great new facility. Security was easy to get through, and the officer was friendly. That's not what I'm here to review. The judge I witnessed was Wes Williams. I was not involved in any case here, I was purely there to observe. Judge Williams was probably the most empathetic and fair judge I've ever encountered in a circuit court of this style. He struck an excellent balance between taking the words of his DA and the defense attorneys, and his own experiences with the law to make his decisions. He gave every defendant full due process, almost to the point of exhaustion, and showed no bias towards any particular side during the time I viewed him at work. After one case, he went off the record to ask some questions to a defendant who had a very favorable outcome to a case, and showed a very human side without being unprofessional. We need more circuit court judges like this in the state of Oregon.

It's revenue courthouse for DOT. If you're a truck driver avoid this area. They will give you a ticket for parking or anything else they can come up with.
