About visiting the probate court

About visiting the Warren County District Court

The term probate court is a common term loosely referring to the probate division located within a state or county courthouse. In the state of Virginia, the Circuit Court is the level of court responsible for overseeing matters related to probate court.

Warren County District Court is listed as a registered probate court within Warren County, Virginia.

In most instances within Virginia, there is at least one Circuit Court courthouse location within each county. Sometimes a county may have multiple courthouses and may also have multiple probate court locations. Such is often the case in larger metropolis counties where population is dense or also in spread-out, rural counties, which may use a courthouse annex or satellite office system to accommodate nearby citizens with easier access in proximity or distance.

About visiting the probate court

Who to speak with when visiting the Warren County probate court

Upon visiting the Warren County District Court, look for signs or directions to the probate division within the main courthouse. Once you’ve located the probate division, make your way to any reception desks and ask to speak with a probate clerk or probate judge. The probate clerk at Warren County District Court may or may not require appointments based upon the busyness of the probate court, so it’s a great idea to call ahead.

Plan ahead to be early in case available parking is limited and be prepared for formal security measures upon entering the building, as courthouses are official state and federal property. This generally includes passing through metal detectors and allowing search of any belongings.

Many courthouses do not allow cell phones, so keep that in mind as your phone may need to be turned off upon entering the courthouse, or even left outside.

Despite the very negative comments (though I cannot attest to the level of justice or corruption here), it was a nice place to stop by in the centre of town. There is the monument to the Confederate dead, which garnered enough controversy to warrant a voter referendum this past November; the voters overwhelmingly voted to keep it on the grounds essentially ending the debate around it for the time being. Nearby are the WWI/WWII, Korean, and Viet Nam war memorials honouring those who passed during those wars as well, and a stone for those passed in the September 11 Attacks, the first I’ve seen at any VA courthouse but I greatly appreciated it nevertheless. Currently, there was a flag display for the survivors of sexual assault for April’s Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and lastly, nearby is an historical marker for the court’s past in particular during the War Between the States. Another marker tells when Stonewall Jackson retook the town in 1862. Would recommend a visit if in Front Royal like I was, cheers.

Just a bunch of crooks. They will pull you over for using your GPS in a 25mph zone and fine you $200...thats $125 more than they will fine people without licenses driving, driving wreckless and speeding over 25. Nothing more than a cash grab. Jokers

The woman in the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court intake office who is there for the sole purpose of setting up appointments and handing out the paperwork needed for those parents who do not have a custody order in effect was very clearly sexist and prejudice against fathers. I went in to pick up paperwork for my husband and set up an appointment for him so he could begin the process of getting custody of his child. She was very sweet and helpful going over the paperwork with me until she realized it was for my husband at which point she became snippy and short with me. I went with him the following week to make sure the process went smoothly for him (as this is already a stressful situation and doesn't need to be made any harder). When we got there the same woman was at the window and all but turned her nose up to him. I however was there a little over a year ago and received the complete opposite reaction, she was sweet, caring, interested in my life. I think perhaps a seminar would be highly suggested or maybe this downright isn't the job position for her, as it does take two people to make and raise a child and both should be treated with the same understanding and open opportunities.
