About visiting the probate court

About visiting the Champaign County Municipal Court

The term probate court is a common term loosely referring to the probate division located within a state or county courthouse. In the state of Ohio, the Common Pleas Court is the level of court responsible for overseeing matters related to probate court.

Champaign County Municipal Court is listed as a registered probate court within Champaign County, Ohio.

In most instances within Ohio, there is at least one Common Pleas Court courthouse location within each county. Sometimes a county may have multiple courthouses and may also have multiple probate court locations. Such is often the case in larger metropolis counties where population is dense or also in spread-out, rural counties, which may use a courthouse annex or satellite office system to accommodate nearby citizens with easier access in proximity or distance.

About visiting the probate court

Who to speak with when visiting the Champaign County probate court

Upon visiting the Champaign County Municipal Court, look for signs or directions to the probate division within the main courthouse. Once you’ve located the probate division, make your way to any reception desks and ask to speak with a probate clerk or probate judge. The probate clerk at Champaign County Municipal Court may or may not require appointments based upon the busyness of the probate court, so it’s a great idea to call ahead.

Plan ahead to be early in case available parking is limited and be prepared for formal security measures upon entering the building, as courthouses are official state and federal property. This generally includes passing through metal detectors and allowing search of any belongings.

Many courthouses do not allow cell phones, so keep that in mind as your phone may need to be turned off upon entering the courthouse, or even left outside.

Bayliff does not speak up when it comes to proceedings. The staff had paperwork wrong. Watch your court papers cause they do not proof read. Bayliff was more concerned about an ink pen when I made an honest mistake and thought it was mine. Technically it was after a 200.00 fine/ correct costs .The judge is another issue Youll figure it out when your there

Today I️ went to the sheriffs department to get a background check for a job I️ just got. I️ am an 18 year old girl fresh out of high school, and I️ have never had to do anything like that for a job before. I️ went in super happy and tried to be as friendly as possible (which is something I️ try to do whenever I️ am being serviced by someone). I️ had some trouble with getting the paperwork I️ needed, but once I️ did I️ went into the building to get my background check. The officer I️ spoke with was not in the slightest kind to me. As a young adult, learning how to do new things, I️ was unsure how to fill out the paper and although my boss had just sent me the paper with the code on it, it was still difficult for me to understand the paper because it seemed as if there were codes all over it, and I️ didn’t know where to find the correct one. First I️ asked the officer where the code was on the paper my boss sent me and showed him the picture of it, to which he responded with “I️ don’t know what code you need.” *very condescendingly* I️ continued to read off the multiple codes I️ saw, which I didn’t realize were the same, and if he would have helped I would have realized that sooner. He negatively said that the codes were the same and that was the one to use. I️ wrote it down and then moved on to the address portion. I️ asked what address I️ should use (because I️ didn’t know if it was an address for the people testing the fingerprints, or if it was my address for my place of work) and he rudely said “I️ don’t know. Where do you need it to go” and then when I asked if it was meant for my place of work he said “is that where it is supposed to go?” And I️ said “I️ just wasn’t sure if it meant the place that the fingerprints get reviewed at or not.” I followed up by saying “I️ am sorry if I️ am bothering you, but I️ have never done this before and am just trying to ask questions and get help.” Finally I️ asked what ‘ATTN’ is (another part of the form) and how I️ should fill that out, and never got a direct answer, but was rudely told to write my jobs name. At this point, I️ was already intimidated and overwhelmed by the officer and his behavior. My money was in an envelope that my boss had given to me and I️ had not opened myself. The price for my background check was $70 and my boss had put $80 in the envelope, all $20s. I️ did know that they needed exact change, however I️ was not the one to put money in the envelope so I️ had no control over the situation. When the officer opened the envelope he rolled his eyes at me because it wasn’t exact change. He sent me to another room to get my break my bill. When I️ got in there, some VERY sweet women, approached me and asked what I️ had needed. I️ told them and as they were getting my change, they asked me what was wrong (my eyes had filled with tears as I️ was waiting and they could obviously tell I️ was upset). Unable to hold it back, I️ began to cry, to which they responded by giving me tissues. They helped to try to calm me down and even speculated on who it could be to have made me feel so bothersome. As I️ was calming down, another officer came in and said I was holding up a line. I️ did NOT want to appear weak in front of this officer, so I️ rubbed away my tears, finished my background check and walked out the door feeling intimidated, frustrated, unimportant, defeated and most importantly like a bother to the officer who worked with me. I️ absolutely hate the stereotypes that white men and officers often face, but sadly as I️ left that office, I️ saw it. I️ saw what everyone always complains about. As a kid, officers are supposed to be someone you look up to and trust when you need help. However, when I needed help, I did not receive much of it. You’d think with everything going on right now, they would be bringing on their A Game. But sadly I️ did not experience this today. I️ wanted to write this not to complain about the department, but hopefully to spark change. As a young adult learning to do new things, I️ need guidance and help, not a condescending attitude.
