About visiting the probate court

About visiting the Miami County Courthouse

The term probate court is a common term loosely referring to the probate division located within a state or county courthouse. In the state of Indiana, the Superior Court is the level of court responsible for overseeing matters related to probate court.

Miami County Courthouse is listed as a registered probate court within Miami County, Indiana.

In most instances within Indiana, there is at least one Superior Court courthouse location within each county. Sometimes a county may have multiple courthouses and may also have multiple probate court locations. Such is often the case in larger metropolis counties where population is dense or also in spread-out, rural counties, which may use a courthouse annex or satellite office system to accommodate nearby citizens with easier access in proximity or distance.

About visiting the probate court

Who to speak with when visiting the Miami County probate court

Upon visiting the Miami County Courthouse, look for signs or directions to the probate division within the main courthouse. Once you’ve located the probate division, make your way to any reception desks and ask to speak with a probate clerk or probate judge. The probate clerk at Miami County Courthouse may or may not require appointments based upon the busyness of the probate court, so it’s a great idea to call ahead.

Plan ahead to be early in case available parking is limited and be prepared for formal security measures upon entering the building, as courthouses are official state and federal property. This generally includes passing through metal detectors and allowing search of any belongings.

Many courthouses do not allow cell phones, so keep that in mind as your phone may need to be turned off upon entering the courthouse, or even left outside.

I always walk in with a smile on my face and have a very kind attitude. Every single woman I have ever encountered at the courthouse has been extremely miserable and rude. They hate people and hate helping people. They can’t wait to tell you you failed to provide something and can’t get your issue handled. Went up there to vote and ANOTHER rude woman couldn’t wait to tell me I missed the early voting time at 12. Hire some people who actually enjoy human interaction

If I could rate no stars I would everything about this place is trash don't recommend ever coming to Peru in the first place. This whole town is Corrupt and it all starts here. They can build big million dollar courthouses but cant fix the millions of pot holes on the roads or offer any kind of support for our citizens even though they are making more money than anyone in this town.... TRULY SAD to see what this world has came to and it's all because of poorly ran places like this..

They never answer the phones, don't return voicemails. They are quick to get you off the line or out of their hair. They have all around horrible customer service. Yall need to strive to be like Allen and Marion Counties...they are great with people, and can always get your answers in a very timely manner. Miami County Courthouse gets a 0 out of 5 from me. Horrible every time.

The building itself gets 5 Stars! It's a shinning example of precision engineering is an amazing piece of architecture. Unfortunately it's been shrouded by the nonsensical placement of unesssary and utterly disorganized tables, posters and similar decour. I see it as an analogical representation of how the county officials used to conduct themselves and how they do today. Miami County can't manage to produce an attractive and easily accessible webpage for its citizens to navigate yet they can afford biometric time clocks for their employees. Perhaps the current IT Director shouldn't have been given the contract to design the webpage through his private business. After all competition is good for creative design. Security is virtually non existent. Presumably overpriced surveillance cameras are placed in various locations throughout the buildings but there's no access control at any entrance. A few tri-signed Court Order(s) barring the possession of weapons on the premises is apparently enough to deter violent criminals from perpetrating their attacks. That was demonstrated several months ago when an authorized individual managed to navigate their way into a private section of the Prosecutors Office. . . . It's a shame to have write just a disparaging review of Miami County given it's my home and birthplace but for the sake of impartiality it must be done. The Courts submit local rules establishing the standards for the practice of law in their courts to the Indiana Supreme Court for approval yet at least one sitting Judge has admitted - on open record - that the rules are neither practiced or enforced. Leaving the question, why contruct them in the first place? They are some of the last Courts of Record in the State of Indiana that have not integrated their case filings into the state's publicly searchable database, Odyssey. Which seems to indicate they'll be one of the last to get onboard with the new E-Filing Initiative. The good 'ole boy system runs rampant through County affairs and as is often does, reduces the efficiency and reliability of the day to day operations. The Prosecuting Attorney submits to the "assembly line justice" methodology of criminal prosecution and the Courts seemingly abide. Over 90% of the criminal caes filed in Miami County are resolved via Plea Bargain or an outright Dismissal. There's simply no reason to prosecute if you can't produce the evidence necessary to secure a conviction before a jury. . . well other than to generate additional revenue to cover more unesssary expenditures, like biometric time clocks. Citizens of Miami County need to be more aware and cognizant of the current state of their County Government this election year. Do your research, cast your vote wisely. It counts.
